In January -August 2017 the YELF implemented a pilot project: “Ready for the Next level” in Pamakka at the Anton Donici School and OS Loka Loka. The project was implemented amongst the 6th graders. The following activities were carried out:

1         Motivating the students of the 6th grade for the GLO exams; a motivation session was held in partnership with the teachers, for all the students of the 6th grade. During this motivation session different subjects were emphasized e.g.: leadership, being focus, personal goals.

2         Tutoring the children in different subject in preparation for the GLO exams; The YELF provided a contracted trainer to conduct daily tutoring for students for the more difficult subjects (Dutch and Math). Dutch and Math were also emphasized during these sessions.

3         Stimulating the parents to participate in the education process; a series of meetings was organized with the parents of the students, were the project activities and the plans of the foundation for the students transitioning to Paramaribo were discussed.

4         An assessment of the education problems in Pamakka:  The assessments of the different education problems has provided the YELF with a good baseline information for the Education in Pamakka.

A pilot project that was implemented in 2017 contributed to a 33% completion rate for the 6th grade (Grangmang foster school). The completion rate for the OS Loka Loka School was 45% after the intervention of YELF. More importantly according to MINOWC statistics, 55% of the students in Suriname graduated for the MULO, without having to retake their exams[1][2].The results in Pamakka should be viewed in this context. Furthermore, a good partnership was established with the management and the teachers of the Moravian, the Catholic and the Public schools.
